The Count of Monte Cristo really gave this brand its name, which is regarded by many as "the best" of all the Havanas.
The Montecristo (not "Montechristo") is produced at the H. Upmann factory, where it was introduced in 1935 by the Menendez and Garcia families, long before they went into exile. The "Monties" have a slightly oily Colorado Claro wrapper, a wonderful fragrance and a medium to full aroma for a simultaneously harsh taste (The Cigar Connoisseur / Heyne).
I personally can confirm this statement: The taste is as harsh as the supervisor of a home for difficult children in Harlem.
