What address could fulfil a cognac producer with greater pride than the "Ch‚teau de Cognac" - the castle in the town of Cognac! In 1796, Baron Otard de la Grange bought this building, which had been owned by the royal family until the revolution, and moved his office to the castle.
But they are just as proud today (and rightly so) of the "Fine Champagne Cognac" from Otard - a cognac exclusively made from distillates from the Grande and Petite Champagne, which, of course and as a matter of principle, is matured much longer at Otard's than the law prescribes.
Otard does not own vineyards, but is supplied by 500 winegrowers and 10 distilleries. To this day, 40% of the brandies from Otard are stored in the castle - among these such gems as the vintage of 1820. But watch out if you think of swiping something here: In the past, this store used to be the castle prison!
