Cognac Meukow
Well, the Meukow company was the supplier of the White House in Washington and the House of Lords in London. In 1862, Karl and August Meukow were ordered by the Russian tsar to travel to Charente to pick out a cognac for the imperial court in St Petersburg. It seems that the two took the job very seriously because they simply stayed in France and, in the same year, even founded the cognac house of "Meukow".
Even though it is now owned by CCG (a consortium of various manufacturers), Meukow is fortunately still largely independent as far as the production and the quality are concerned. And their loyal customers seem to appreciate this - see above!
By the way: A bottle of Meukow from 1789, the year of the French Revolution, is said to still linger somewhere in Switzerland - now wouldn't we like too - uh - BEHEAD it!
